Jeff Lennon is a master of mixing up funk, soul, jazz, house and hip-hop from across the ages to create warm, emotional dance floors. He has musical roots that go all the way back to the hip-hop scene in France in the late 80s when he discovered the Zulu Nation Movement through graffiti and street art. After a few years painting abandoned trains, metros, and wastelands around Paris, he started to explore rap and DJing, organizing battles with MCs from the neighborhood, while avidly exploring the old soul and funk gems that were sampled by US rap artists in the 80s and early 90s.
Today, his knowledge of those sounds is second to none, having forged three decades of friendship with the likes of Lord Funk, one of the most incredible crate diggers and samples dealers in history, and Laurent Cohen aka DJ LC – a long-time disco DJ and an iconic record dealer at top Paris record stores in the 90’s and 2000’s. In 1997, He inaugurates his first label, Kreatic Records with DJ LC. Together they released several licensed albums, a dozen rap compilations, over 25 singles, bootlegs, and mixtapes as well as soundtrack scores, and remixes exploring rap, ragga, house, electro, soul and r&b.
Now based in Lisbon since 2009, Jeff travels all around the world to explore new record shops, dig in the crates and unearth more soul, jazz-rock, funk, rap, afro, brazil, boogie, and ragga tunes. He is a mainstay of the Portuguese scene who regularly spins at parties like DisqueDisse, BoaVista Socialclub, Vago, MUSA, Tokyo bar, Mona Verde, Praia Irmão, Plano B, Base, and OutJazz Festival. Jeff is also a regular crew member for Natasha Diggs’ Soul in the Horn shows. He also occasionally plays abroad in Europe, US and Asia during his innumerous travels, at clubs and audiophile bars.
